Hi, thank you for taking the time to visit. I’m Brittany Schade, a potter and designer in Bellingham, Washington. I am a full-time design professor and also Co-owner of Circa Pottery Shop & Gallery.

I took a wheel throwing class during the pandemic after having only one other class fifteen years ago—this time around it was instant love. I work out of a community studio, where I am surrounded by experienced potters and good friends who have helped me grow immensely this past year.

Having a background in design has given me a solid foundation in looking critically at shape, texture, and color. Although, working in three-dimensions rather than digitally adds considerably more creative decisions to make. For the most part, each piece is designed with function and table in mind. I typically look to find ways of creating lots of contrast, playfully pairing clay surfaces and textures with simple, modern forms and limited glazes. Finding my style, or rather what I enjoy making and seeing, has been really fun, however it’s proven important to my growth to let go of that control and experiment, letting the clay decide what it wants to be.
